The eagle and the chickens
An eagle flew over the chicken yard to catch a midday meal. In order to choose the right chicken, he settled on a grain kiln, where the grain was dried, and looked around. Then he flew to the next grain kiln and tried to find the right chicken from there. But the chickens had already seen the eagle and hid under boards and bushes. Finally, the eagle flew onto the fence to better spot the chickens.
Then the chickens said to each other with amusement: "Why is the eagle actually called the king of birds? He only flies from the grain kiln to the fence, we can do that too."
The eagle had heard the words exactly. Annoyed, he shouted, "I can fly not only low, but also very high, up to the clouds!" The chickens kept very still and waited until the eagle flew away. Then they came out of their hiding places, clucked excitedly and said, "Pah! What does he get out of it that he can fly all the way to heaven. When he is hungry, he still has to fly down to grab one of us. If we were not he would have to starve miserably in his clouds."
Thereupon they pecked contentedly at grains and worms and rejoiced.
